I’ve been looking for new ways to connect.
I miss routinely writing. And I miss connecting with readers. I loved the heyday of blog writing where we kept up with one another, where we commented and where we shared our thoughts & ideas.
So after talking with my very smart friend Ruth (who helped me through the rigors of writing a book) about ways in which my writing can evolve, I decided to try several of the ideas she suggested. (I’ll share more of them later.) But this idea is Substack and that’s what you’re reading right now.
1. What is Substack?
It’s just a platform. But it’s handy & convenient & user friendly. Plus, they handle all the subscriptions & the email lists & the formats & the dollars & the cents and I’m a writer, not a dollars & cents handler.
2. How will it work?
I’ll admit, I can’t entirely answer the question I just asked. But I do know this, you’ll be receiving newsletters from me - which are really just blog posts like the good old days but in your inbox instead of having to go search them out on the website.
3. What am I paying for?
What you’re really paying for is convenience. My blog posts/newsletters/friendly little epistles will arrive in your email inbox whenever I write them. Yeah, it’s a little like you’re paying me a wee salary for writing. Think of it like paying for a Netflix subscription to read - although this is actually cheaper than that. (It’s also cheaper than a once a month coffee and we all know we buy coffee more than once a month.) It’s like buying a book in bite-sized pieces. (Which is how our good buddy Charles Dickens sold his books once upon a British time.)
4. What do I do next?
Thanks for asking!
You can subscribe and you can see if your friends want to subscribe too!
(And if you decide to be a Founding Member you choose the subscription rate you pay AND you get a real in-your-actual-outside-of-your-home mailbox letter from me with fun stickers as a thank you!)
