What's New With Us
Well, the 2023/24 snowbird trip (our 12th now) has ended as we crossed back into Canada a few days ago. It was another enjoyable journey. The highlight, of course, was our wedding in Las Vegas! If you’ve missed my travel updates, here is a link to the full video playlist.
Below are links to recent posts covering our early April travels from Nevada to the Oregon Coast and our stay at Black Butte Lake Rec Area in California.
It was awesome to return to the coast again after missing the last couple of springs, where we traveled through Utah, Nevada, and Idaho instead.
The only downer was many days of stiff north winds limiting our beach fun. But it was still great to smell the clean ocean air and enjoy the gorgeous views. The sun even came out for a few days! Wildlife viewing was pretty good, too, as we caught sight of a herd of Roosevelt Elk and many sea birds, including a pelican.
We spent a full week dry camped at Salmon Harbor Marina ($150) in Winchester Bay, then moved up the coast to Tillamook and overnighted at the Blue Heron French Cheese Factory (free). We then spent three nights at the Little Creek Casino ($15) in Kamilche, Washington, and finally two nights at the 7 Cedars Casino (free) near Sequim, WA.
Having lots of solar and battery power helps reduce travel costs, as we don’t need to pay for electric hookups. Dry camping offers us more elbow room, especially in the off-season.
I used a $10 dump station kiosk at Salmon Harbour for water and waste and got free dump and water fill at Little Creek since we paid for dry camping.
I hope to publish a wrap-up video on the snowbird trip next month detailing the total camping & fuel costs, miles traveled, etc. We have a busy May, though, so it may have to wait till June.
After catching up with family, we are heading to an RV Park in Courtney for five days so we can clean out our jammed storage room in Comox. Then, we cross to the mainland at Powell River on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve booked a two-week stay at the Sunlund RV Park while we de-winterize the boat and ensure it is in ship shape for a planned launch date of May 27th! Stay tuned.
