Terrence Davies, the filmmaker behind such landmarks as “Distant Voices, Still Lives” and “The Day Closes” has sadly passed away. He was 77. The English director died peacefully in his home after a short illness on October 7, as confirmed by his social media. He was supposed to shoot his next film in Jamaica in November. This is a shattering loss for cinema. Davies never compromised his art, always staying true to his own vision. He found his own personal cinematic language and stuck with it for four decades. His last few films included “A Quiet Passion,” “Sunset Song,” “The Deep Blue Sea” and 2021’s “Benediction.”

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a "beautiful" young Scots YouTuber who died suddenly at the weekend. Nicole McGuire, from Glasgow's Southside, passed away on Saturday afternoon aged just 26. She was known online as Nicoleeo where she had gained a following as a YouTuber as well as producing content for BBC The Social. Her grief-striken mother Laura McGuire, 45, told to the Scottish Sun Online that her daughter was her "shining star." In a touching tribute, her mum said: "My heart is breaking, and our life’s will never be the same again without Nicole. Nicole's brother Sean McGuire, 28, broke the tragic news to his friends on Facebook earlier today. “On Saturday afternoon my sister known to her followers and friends around the world as @niicoleeo, a wise, compassionate, creative loving soul, was unexpectedly taken away from us. In making this post, I'm still in disbelief.“

Kent - A 'fit and healthy' youth football coach died after collapsing and falling ill on a long-haul flight home. Matt Milne, 43, of Whitstable, Kent, was on a 6,000-mile-long flight to London Heathrow following a work trip to Singapore when it is thought he suffered a deep vein blood clot in his leg. Off-duty paramedics on board the flight rushed to his side and battled to save his life in front of distressed passengers, and the father-of-two was rushed to Hillingdon Hospital after the plane landed on the runway. His wife of 18 years, Fran, rushed to his bedside after police officers knocked on her door at 8 am and told her he had fallen ill, but Mr Milne died before she arrived. Doctors think he died as result of a deep vein thrombosis in his leg which spread to his lung.
British holidaymaker suddenly dies on Jet2 plane before flight back to UK from Spain

A British holidaymaker has reportedly died whilst onboard a Jet2 plane from Spain to the UK. The Mirror reported Monday that the incident took place around midday Friday as the plane prepared to take off from the Reus Airport on Spain’s Costa Dorada. The passenger is said to have lost consciousness before takeoff. The death involved a 61-year-old man, according to local reports. The plane had been due to fly back to the East Midlands Airport, but the pilot put the flight on hold after the tourist was said to have fallen ill. The airline is said to have radioed for medical assistance after the passenger, who has not been named, lost consciousness. Despite emergency services racing to the scene, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mirror reported that a post-mortem has taken place, but the results are yet to be made public. One local report linked the death to possible heart failure, but police have not yet made any official comment.

Leyton Orient v Lincoln: Fan dies despite supporters stopping match to allow medical treatment

London - A supporter has died after becoming unwell in the stands during a match between Leyton Orient and Lincoln City on Tuesday night. A fan ran on the pitch towards referee Stephen Martin to draw attention to the fact that a member of the public needed medical attention in the East Stand. The referee initially waved the supporter away, however, and allowed the game to continue for approximately one minute longer until about 20 fans sat down on the pitch at the home end to force play to be stopped. With paramedics giving the supporter CPR on the side of the pitch, the referee eventually took the teams off the field. The match was abandoned an hour after the initial stoppage and as the fans left the ground, the medical teams were still attending to the patient. On Wednesday morning it was confirmed that the supporter had died. A statement from London Ambulance Service said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, two medics in fast-response cars and an ambulance crew. “We treated a man at the scene, but very sadly, despite our teams’ best efforts, he was later pronounced dead.”

Wolverhampton - The family of a baby who suddenly died at eight weeks old when she went to sleep and never woke up again have spoken of their heartbreak. Little Lucy Louise had been fed at around 3am before going back to sleep, but later the same morning was found "blue" and unresponsive by her mum Alisha Batty in their Wolverhampton home. Her partner, Adam Dutton, 21, carried out CPR until paramedics arrived but she was pronounced dead at around 9 am on Sunday, September 17. The family are still clueless as to what caused the baby’s tragic death and are waiting for the results of a post-mortem.

A 16-year-old boy who died in a Bradford district town has been named locally as Saafi Brown. A huge police presence descended on Westgate in Baildon, at around 7.30 am yesterday following reports of a medical emergency. The teenager was rushed to hospital where he sadly passed away. A statement from West Yorkshire Police said officers were called by the ambulance service to a medical emergency involving a 16-year-old male. His death is being treated as unexplained.

A young man has died suddenly at a mental health hospital in Middlesbrough. Enquiries are ongoing after a 23-year-old man passed away while at Roseberry Park Hospital, in Marton Road, on Friday, September 29. Paramedics were called to the hospital on Friday morning to a "person unwell", the Northeast Ambulance Service has confirmed. Cleveland Police say enquiries are ongoing and a postmortem examination has been scheduled following the death.

The mother of a 24-year-old man in Rhyl who died last month has celebrated the life of her “everything”. Ryan Williams died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, September 13, having suffered from numerous health conditions for several years. He had not long been diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition which causes the heart to beat abnormally fast for periods of time.

A new mum only saw her baby for a few seconds before suffering a ‘profound, catastrophic collapse’ from which she never recovered, an inquest has heard. Bernadette Horsey, 31, managed to catch a glimpse of son Tim before entering cardiac arrest and dying at the Royal Derby Hospital on January 19, 2022. Within moments of saying ‘It’s a boy’ and while medics were still congratulating her and now-widower Aaron, there was a ‘clear and critical change’ in her condition, the hearing was told. Dr Martyn Traves, a consultant anaesthetist at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), which runs the hospital, said he believed Bernadette died from an amniotic fluid embolism, where amniotic fluid enters the bloodstream and causes a reaction which can stop the heart.

Hannah received the devastating news when she was two months into her pregnancy and was given the option to terminate the foetus due to the possible effects of chemotherapy. Regardless of doctors warning Hannah that she 'wasn’t going to make it', she defied all odds and gave birth to her daughter, Nova, on Thursday, September 21, the Echo reports. Tragically, the new mum passed away just 10 days later.

Lukas Nedza, 26, from Glenrothes, Fife was placed in a coma after contracting a mystery illness on a family break in May. It was his first holiday with partner Ellis Campbell and daughter Dominika, who was just 11 months old at the time. He was rushed to hospital and placed in an induced coma. Lukas was flown back to Scotland in July and had been receiving treatment at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, but he never recovered.

A heartbroken Huddersfield man has paid a warm tribute to his friend following his sudden and tragic death at the age of 43. Gary Brammall, who was well known across Huddersfield, died last week, leaving family and friends devastated. Gary was landlord at The Scape House pub at Scapegoat Hill, Huddersfield. The pub said Gary had been the hard-working landlord for the past seven years and said it was believed that Gary had died after lapsing into a diabetic coma and there were no suspicious circumstances. Dozens of people have paid tribute to Gary, who had worked at several pubs and restaurants in the Huddersfield area. It is understood that the former Holmfirth High School student was a dad to a teenage daughter.

A nine-year-old boy died just days after he was discharged from hospital, a pre-inquest review has heard. Dylan Cope was just nine-years-old when he died on December 14, 2022. A pre-inquest review at Newport Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, heard how Dylan was taken to the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran on December 6. A statement given to WalesOnline by the Cope family’s lawyers told how he was referred to the emergency department by his GP for “suspected appendicitis”. Senior Coroner Caroline Saunders told the court that Dylan was discharged from the hospital in the early hours of December 7 with the advice to take ibuprofen and information about coughs and colds. Ms Saunders said Dylan was taken back to the hospital on December 10 and he was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales. Dylan, from Newport, sadly died on December 14. His cause of death was listed as 1a septic shock and multiple organ dysfunction.

Ex-soldier Rick Graham, 74, started feeling unwell while walking the Camino de Santiago near Pamplona. The former Warrant Officer Class 1 in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, served as a UN Peacekeeper in Cyprus and on four tours in Northern Ireland during the Troubles during his 22-year military career. He joined The Royal Hospital in Chelsea in 2015 following his father's footsteps. His devastated daughter Alison said: "My dad was a funny character, very proud of his family and his Chelsea pensioner roots”.
Ceredigion: No further action to be taken against woman after girl died days before Christmas

A woman arrested on suspicion of neglect in connection with the sudden unexplained death of an eight-year-old girl will not face any further action, police have said. The Dyfed-Powys Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of an eight-year-old girl in Ceredigion. Emily Tredwell-Scott, from Maes-y-Deri, Lampeter, died on the evening of 22 December 2022. A 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect on 23 December last year. Now, in a statement, the Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm that no further action will be taken against the 33-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of neglect in connection with the death of 8-year-old Emily Tredwell-Scott. “Emily sadly died from natural causes in Maes-y-Deri, Lampeter on the evening of Thursday, 22 December 2022. Our thoughts remain with the family."

The man was believed to be from a village in east Limerick, as reported by the Limerick Leader. It is understood that the man had travelled to Paris to attend Ireland's World Cup clash with Scotland at the Stade de France. A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is aware of the sudden death and is giving their help. They said: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the death of an Irish citizen in France and is providing consular assistance.”
