Garden Surprise
This was my second year growing artichokes. Or, really, growing a single artichoke plant, since my second plant didn’t survive last year’s dry spell. It takes a second season for the plant to produce flower buds, which are the things one cuts off and eats. And I did indeed get a large, lovely, delicious globe this spring, with two more buds showing promise.
Alas, the third small bud dried out. The second, well, I wasn’t sure how large it should grow before harvest, and as a result, I waited too long. It went to flower. But I’m not sad. The flower is really quite beautiful.
The bees and butterflies think it’s pretty swell too. Have at it, pollinators!
