As per the American Kennel Club, the average litter size for a Golden Retriever is eight puppies, but litters vary anywhere from four to twelve pups. The largest known litter was seventeen puppies. That poor, tired mamma dog!
You guys probably remember that TV show “Eight is Enough.” New show idea—that, but with puppies. “Seventeen is Sufficient” has a pretty nice ring to it, yes? Dick Van Patten would have been perfect for this reboot, being an animal lover, but sadly he passed away in 2015. I’m open to casting suggestions. Leave them below.
Are Golden Retrievers living shorter lives than their recent ancestors? There does not seem to be consensus about this theory that has some veterinarians concerned, but it does illustrate the problems of inter-breeding in some canine lines. I love the fact that they all woke up except the third one from the left. That puppy knows sleep is important and should never be interrupted!
