Negative Nancy says - “I don’t have access to White-label code. So, I can’t trust these platforms.”
Me - Most white-label products don’t expose code. But from a business standpoint, this should be a show-stopper unless you are working on something that needs some compliance checks. Alternatively, there are a few companies that open-source their platforms too. For example, Mautic is the largest marketing automation software project that can be white-labeled and is open source too.
Negative Nancy says - “Isn’t that the white-label software creators also competing with me in the same market to sell the same software?”
Me - The market is generally huge and can usually accommodate multiple sellers at any time. Having said that most white-label software creators will actually help you sell more rather than hurt your sales.
Deep-dive
What is white-labeling?
White labeling describes the process by which a company removes its branding from a product or service and adds the branding of another entity.
It allows the purchasing company to get into the industry without having the capacity to make the product in the first place. It also saves them a lot of time and resources that they’d otherwise send making the product.
Another advantage of purchasing a white-label product is that the purchasing company can expand their current offerings by incorporating these products into their existing offerings, giving their customers more options. When companies purchase white-label items, they can expand their range of products and offer a more comprehensive experience to their customers.
Why do companies create white-label products?
White-label products help with scaling the satisfaction for your users. Let’s say you have 1000 users paying $50/m and you are seeing a lot of churns. The quickest and easiest way would be to add value to your users by adding something more to what you are currently offering to your subscribers/users. The fastest way to add ‘that additional value’ is by introducing a new feature, new product, new service that’s built on White-label.
While you can certainly build your own solutions, trying white-label products will help you go up and running much faster with no requirement for a complex setup.
Most white-label products are plug and play mode and are easier to try.
The white-label option is just another form of B2B. You are converting your B2C SaaS or service into a B2B by adding a new offering under the ‘white-label’ option.
The white-label option is often neglected by most founders/builders while it is actually a high-value revenue-generating option if executed well. White-label market primarily runs on the premise of - ”People who have audience can get the required tech/service in the form of white-label and can add value to their audience super-quick without a lot of hassles”
Let’s see some of the profitable niches in this space.
Some niches
White-label Marketplace products: Marketplaces are usually tough to build/grow because of their inherent ‘egg-chicken’ problem. So most founders want to validate the marketplace with some ready-made tech. This is where White-label products around Marketplace can help. Using these readily available white-label marketplace setups, founders can quickly build an entire marketplace and start running their business from day one without investing a lot of time and money on the technical side of things. JungleWorks in this space is making an estimated revenue is $95M/year. Create a Marketplace software where your customers can build an entire marketplace with a couple of clicks. Make sure to support multiple features like dashboards, analytics, payments, etc too. Remember that this is a high-value niche and monthly revenue per customer would be around more than $300/month with additional one-time setup cost you can charge your customers. See the below high-value CPC(Cost-per-click) understand that this is a high-value niche product.
White-label community software: Almost all companies realized that they need to build a community around their audience to reduce the churn and build connections with customers. But building community software like Facebook needs a lot of tech and resources. Instead of spending a lot of money and reinventing the wheel, most companies are looking for community software that companies can plug and play. White-label community software providers like Circle.so and Tribe.so are already making thousands of dollars with their white-label community software. Tribe founded in 2018 is at an estimated revenue of $190K MRR. Circle in this space recently raised $24M in funding. Create a white-label community software with required features like dashboards, reporting, admin capabilities, social sharing features, etc. Talk to people who have an audience and to start with offer a free concierge service where you will set up the whole community to a few of your initial customers.
Content writing service: Everyone needs content to build on SEO. Scaling tech is relatively easier these days by adding more resources to your infrastructure. But scaling the content isn’t easy for companies. Many productized services charge $500-$2000/month for providing the content. Create a similar service but make it a white-label option so that people can sell the same service to their end-customers and drive you more sales. Since it’s a white-label option, your customer’s end-customers would never know that you are working on it behind the scenes but you still make money with the white-label option. White-label options like these are really a win-win for many agencies and companies who need to provide content service to their customers without ramping up internal teams. This also retains the brand for people who purchase these white-label services. Scribly with a similar white-label option has an estimated revenue is $40K MRR.
White-label affiliate software: Affiliate marketing is a popular way to make money online by promoting products and services. There are many software programs on the market that can automate this task. If you’re not familiar with affiliate software, it’s basically a piece of code that runs on your website. The purpose is to help you generate (and track) affiliate commissions. There are a bunch of great affiliate software programs out there. Many growth marketing agencies want to set up affiliate marketing for their end customers but still want to maintain their brand without going through third-party services. This is where a white-label affiliate software can help so that agencies can offer this under their brand. Create a Micro SaaS solution around this. Tapfiliate in this space has an estimated revenue of $100K MRR.
White-label Restaurant Apps, Training/Fitness App, Business Apps: There is an entire suite of apps required for various businesses like training, fitness, mentoring, restaurants, etc. Many individuals and companies who want to start their businesses need apps and websites around their segment. Create a Micro SaaS solution around this where customers can enter basic information about their business like logo, business information, etc and your Micro SaaS should be able to generate apps and websites around their business. Note that products like these are high-value sales. For example, Trainerize is a white-label app for fitness businesses and is currently at an estimated revenue is $14M/year. Similarly, NudgeCoach is a white label coaching app to power your online programs, and it’s a no-code SaaS platform that makes it easy to customize a coaching app for your clients. NudgeCoach recently received $2M in funding.
