Gift From the Sea talks to The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
inspirational nonfiction literature and spiritual self-help talk to each other
Gift From the Sea (1955) by Anne Morrow Lindberg is a beautiful spiritual book which I read in May of last year. I absolutely adored reading it. I bought it on a whim at Second and Charles with my boyfriend for 50 cents. I loved the cover image and the title and when I read the back cover I thought, “If any book is the book for me, it looks like this one.” I got the twentieth anniversary edition and I think it's so cute. When I picked it up, I thought I recognized the last name, but was not sure - the author description reveals that this is in fact the mother of the Lindberg baby. Thus, someone who has experienced immense grief - and on the national stage, no less. In general the book is lovely; of course some of the concepts reflect the time and the context that it was written in, i.e. it is old fashioned in some ways, but it is primarily timeless wisdom. I love how each chapter is named after a shell and hinges on a metaphor of the respective shell.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (1994) by Deepak Chopra is a well known spiritual self-help book inspired by Hindu and spiritual concepts. I read this in mid-July last summer and really enjoyed it. I think it’s a great short read that I will revisit many times and share with many people - I’ve already shared and discussed it with a few friends and would love to talk to more readers about it.
Both of these books house a significant amount of wisdom and I highly suggest them. Here, I have parsed out some of my favorite excerpts from the each and paired them together.
Now, let’s let the books talk.
I hope that you gained some inspiration from these wonderful writers’ words. I highly suggest reading the books in their entirety (and discussing them with me in the comments/chat!).
Thanks for being with me on this journey. I’m honored to have a spot in your inbox.
If you feel so called, please share this post with a friend (or soulmate?) who would appreciate these words.
xoxo,
