What does it mean to see?
I know 'to see' is such a commonly used verb in our everyday parlance that describing what it means in this sense is something of a herculean task. Upon a search across multiple sources and definitions; I've had to merge and cross the varying elements into one melting pot that comes closest to the subject of our discussion in this edition:
“To see is to discern or deduce after reflection, or from information; to understand from personal experience.”
So this means that I can cast you a glance, but that doesn't necessarily mean I see you. We come in contact with so many people in one day right? But think on it now, how many of them do you actually see? Eggzactly.
Do you struggle to feel seen?
In a world of about 7.8 billion people, feeling truly individualistic is not an easy feat. Looking at yourself in the context of a world that's way bigger than you, as one tiny speck in the universe will most likely make you feel insignificant. You'd feel like one nameless, faceless person that's just floating around and biding their time on earth. Sheesh, sounds a little depressing, doesn't it? And regardless of how it sounds, it's still the reality of many people; possibly even you that's reading this right now.
Or in a smaller scope like your family, school, workplace, church or even your friend circle; do you constantly feel like nobody really sees or recognises you for who you are, in your wholeness or entirety?
When people are looking for someone to do a particular task, one that you know in your heart that you can do beautifully, do you have to almost physically hold yourself from screaming out: "Pick me! I'm your girl/guy!" And yet, they still don't give you a second glance.
Does your heart sink in disappointment each time you're not in a place and it doesn't feel like anyone noticed your absence? Or maybe you go on a social media break and nobody even makes any effort to reach out to you or wonder why your stories are no longer the first thing they see, or if you're doing okay.
Is it because you're not loud? You ask yourself, is it because you're not constantly in everyone's faces? So you make an effort to step out and switch things up; which brings you to doing what feels unnatural to you. A fake, blindingly cheery smile fixed on your face, your voice altered to a pitch that makes your normally rich, low-tone voice into a nasally high pitched sound; you're doing everything you normally wouldn't because this craving inside of you to be seen won't let up.
After all, what does it matter? They're starting to see right? Their gazes slide up to you, if only for a nanosecond and a ghost of a flicker of a smile graces their lips when you say your best joke.
But then after a while, your hope dims a little more when it seems like nothing has changed. The knife twists a little deeper with each ignored message; with each time someone walks past you in the halls without acknowledging your presence, you ask yourself for clarity, "But I don't understand, is there something wrong with me. Am I a ghost?? When will they finally begin to see me!"
How about you let me show you what you don't see: Your soul craves a full meal but all they offer are crumbs and you jump at it regardless because you do not know the value of what is already yours. Those that offer crumbs, don't always do so deliberately but because not everyone will see you for you and that's not what's most important. What's really most important is that you understand that God is there to feed your longing to be seen in the exact intensity with which it grabs your innermost being. And His intimate knowledge of who you are is enough to make you feel like you matter.
It is a whole expression of Him, important enough for Him to be named by one of the castaways in the Bible - Hagar, Sarah's maid, as EL-ROI - the God who sees me.
Here's a truth you should never forget: You are SEEN. There are over 7.8 billion people and yet God sees you. None of the beautifully simple yet complex intricacies that make up your whole being are missed by God. He sees you for who you are, for who He has made you to be. He sees your beauty, He sees your flaws, He sees your strengths, He sees your hopes and dreams, He sees your fears for the future, He sees your struggles, He sees your pain and heartaches, He sees your insecurities, He sees your doubts, He sees your tentative faith. He sees your good intentions. He knows your name. And He calls you ENOUGH, just as you are.
In fact, He sees your longstanding desire to make a mark. Before, you didn't let Him speak before screaming, "If only they can see me first, then that'll be my opportunity to shine!"
But now that your soul is quiet before him, El Roi says to tell you that you don't need them to see you before you make your mark.
I chose you, I made you, I see you and I send you in My Name. I have qualified and sanctified you; and you have everything you need.
So go forth with that consciousness. Say this with me: El-Roi sees all of me and He calls me enough.
My precious ará àdúgbò🥺💚
Your girl is back here. I'm sorry for my unannounced absence, the original plan was to post the concluding part of the Sweet Mama series then inform you guys that I'm off to school and so updates would be less frequent. Buttt, it didn't work out that way. I've been in school since October ending and whew! It's been a rideee (I'd have to properly gist you in a different edition sha😂)
I'm still in school, though Christmas break is inching closer and closer and I couldn't be more excited. My spirit perceives something amazing will be happening soonestttt 😌
Did you miss me? I've absolutely missed you and the longing to write to you has literally been present for such a long time. I'm glad I was able to send you this edition at this time. Speaking of, what do you love about this edition? Write me back and let's gist. And fun fact: Voir is actually French for 'to see', in case you didn't know before🤗
