I wish this <Insert Scale Model Kit> was Released.....
On our wish lists and what we might part with for it!!
I am writing this in caravan in Cornwall. Perranporth is where its at, Newquay is soo yesterday. We are right on the coast with the beach about a 10 minute drive away. A weekend away is what I need. But I've found a bit of time to write this weeks article and musing on how time away from my bench and all things work related is great for the mind, I think I have 5 ideas for articles now which will be written over the coming weeks..
I just spent the morning swimming in the sea and sitting on the beach reading the latest Tamiya Magazine and Military Modeller International.. And the weather is beautiful for October, 23 degrees and the sand is warm. Autumn is nearly here so I think this was the Sun’s last day with his hat on, Hip Hip Hip Hooray!
We are with friends this time and we both have Dogs, so we spend our evenings drinking lager and eating out around Perranporth, in Dog friendly places, but not wetherspoons.. because they don’t allow dogs which has always been a Dick Move from o’ Timmy Martin!!
Our friends have a little Beagle around 4 months old called Winnie, with sharp needles for teeth. Ours is a Jackapoo called Toby, he is a delight and been a real blessing, he is very loving and has both the temperaments of a Poodle and a Jack Russell, he can be very well behaved, but when there is a cat around or a younger dog, he growls and tries to show dominance, it is then he becomes a Jack shit.
Anyways, the Inbetweeners is on the telly and I just heard Jay say something that made me laugh out loud! The scene is the lads are in Simons Yellow Fiat which his Dad gave him for passing his driving test. They have just seen a car full of ladies and Jay is egging simon on to follow “this car full of muff” and simon said he wasn’t interested in them.. Which Jay said “I am, in fact i'll give my left bollock” for a car full of women.
Which kinda got me thinking, there is one scale model kit I wouldn’t necessarily give my left testicle for, but I would love to see a proper tooling of one that hasn’t really been done properly in my personal opinion. Sorry if I’ve mentioned it before…..
On my workbench I have the Hobby-boss 1/48 Bearcat. Finally got round to building it after getting a great deal from my good friend James from www.spruebox.co.uk. I’ve built the monogram / Revell Bear cats, I have the Hawk/ Signum bearcat, very basic at best, half built on the same shelf as my half finished Mini Art Bantam. I’ve built 4 Hobby-boss 1/72 scale easy assembly bearcats because they are quick to build to try different techniques on.
This bearcat on my bench is apparently one of the best on the market, its certainly the latest one in 1/48 scale but its lack lustre and mediocre at best. The joins do need filler especially round the underside, I found both the very forward and the tail gear bulkheads a nightmare to get aligned. I had to fit them by closing the fuselage halves to let them all dry. Engine had detail which would be lost when the cowling went on, that took some fettling to get a good fit.
The plastic is ok, but I find Hobby-boss plastic as one of the safer plastics to model with, it bonds well with cement, it does hold its own with other manufactures chosen plastic, not tinny and far from being soft. Sanding it is more powder than tearing off.
Don’t get me wrong. For a model under 20 quid its a fun build so far.. I’m still erk’d that the box art is clearly not the F8F-1B but in fact the 2 with the taller stabiliser fin at the back.. and the cowling is different. But hey ho.
While that said and done, I’m enjoying the build. But I love building bearcats, I just feel there is an a gap in the market to tool and release 1/48 scale model of this subject. Plus a 1/72 which has the detail to match releases we have been seeing in that scale the past 5 years. I know Trumpeter has 1/32 scale Bearcat. Never seen it built, never seen the box. But I don’t do 1/32 really.. I want 48 or 72.
I’ve asked Airfix to just do it, their reply is the same as to every kit I ask “You’ll Never Know” and then Troll me with BearCat footage from Duxford on Twitter and bloody Instagram!! How how I laugh… yeah right!!
Feel free to mention in the comments which scale model you think needs to be released by any manufacturer, I would love to see your wishlist!!
I will keep wishing for a great Bearcat just as much as most are asking for a Sepecat Jaguar in any scale, and to some that Jaguar is worth giving up a left bollock for and maybe more…

I would love to see a 1/32 Juno HT1 helicopter in the training paint scheme from any manufacturer really
I would like to see the Volvo BV202 or the Hägglunds BV206 in 1/35 from Airfix. The BV206 is operating in 28 countries, if you include Legoland.
