Few exciting updates as teased out in last edition…
🎧 Excited to present the next Human Algorithm Takeover with Ynstant Coffei! I listened to his set yesterday at the London airport terminal and it made me feel like I was in Miami, in the afternoon, with a drink in hand. It’s upbeat and features a range of electronic songs, eloquently mixed together. Scroll down to learn more!
🎙️ I recorded my first Instagram Reel on my latest HA Mix (Melodic Techno). It will definitely take more time to get used to being in front of the camera but plan on testing out this new format more! If it weren’t for my 2 years in Toastmasters I am not sure I’d go for this but is a new personal challenge and a new way to share and promote Music Club.
🕺 On the flight back from London to LA yesterday, I watched a recent documentary on the Bee Gees that I highly recommend: The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. Looks to be available on Hulu, Prime Video & Max. Musically, it’s insane how many songs they created and how they shifted their sound over the decades.
☕ HA Takeover with Ynstant Coffei
What was the inspiration behind the mix? Any standout songs? The set is titled 11-11, which was a set i prepared and performed live on 11-11. One could say this set will provide you just as much vibes as it can good luck and positive energy to your day. I wanted to make a set that would really get people moving but could feel the music and really get hype for the weekend. I've always been somebody who values the potential of people feeling great from the music in the same way that I feel from hearing those very same tracks. I hope this is a playlist people will play in the background and even jam too on an after hours vibe or a hype pregame to get the weekend started! My favorite song from this playlist is "Scream By James Hurr. I Jah" which is the final track of the set. If that track doesn't get your body grooving I don't know what will! My next big plan is to make visuals to my sets on YouTube and give that perfect background projector vibe when jamming to both House music and soon Chill hop level morning coffee vibes.
You go by Ynstant Coffei. How did your DJ name and persona come about? Funny story, the origin of Ynstant Coffei dates back to right before the pandemic where my friends and I went to Bali for a birthday event. During our time there we saw that the famous DJ Black Coffee was due to perform there in a few weeks, we had went to a restaurant there for brunch and during that brunch a bunch of photographers were snapping photos of what we believe were influencers and then they asked if they could take photos of me. Easy to say I felt famous for a brief moment even though I clearly am not *Chuckles*. My fellow friends and I then joked and said they must think I'm Black Coffee to which my fellow friend and DJ Amirium joked and said "Instant Coffee"!! This name stuck and ever since it became a nickname, one I really enjoy due to my love of coffee and my ability to bring energy to those around me the same way coffee does. I've always been a fan and somebody that likes to create a comforting vibe to those around me and so the name found me and I feel in love with it!
What approach do you take when DJing a mix, whether live or recording at home? I try to record myself at home often even when I'm practicing my sets as I play it to challenge myself to be live every time I'm jamming. It gets you comfortable with the idea of being in front of people while playing not to mention nothing feels more rewarding then hitting those transitions perfectly throughout the whole set. I'm not sure people realize it but DJ's make mistakes all the time, it comes with the business but a good DJ doesn't let it interrupt the flow and the end result is a crowd that feels like they have been able to really let out and enjoy pure energy and joy during turbulent times. We want people to feel the way we do when jam and its important to us to see the crowd letting go and vibin to the sound we bring!
