I’m taking on ’s friendly challenge to use ’s image below as a prompt. Here’s my 250-word crunch!
“There’s no way I’m going in there,” Matt scoffed.
“Then why did you drive me here?”
“Josh…It’s falling apart. And you know the stories too well. People go in. No one leaves.”
“I just... It was the last place anyone saw him.”
“I know.. But no one found him.”
“No one looked! They just made excuses!”
“Josh, I hate it, but you’ll probably never know what happened.”
Leaning on Matt’s truck, Josh was dreadfully focused on the dilapidated desert shack.
“Seven years gone and here I am. This close.”
Turning sternly to Matt, Josh said, “I have to go in.”
He stepped defiantly toward the shack before Matt caught his shoulder scolding, “Josh!”
“I have to go!”
“Fine. I’ll wait.”
With a pause at the door, Josh passed through; a metallic thud sealing him inside.
What laid before him was an inexplicable expanse. A trail of candlelight accompanied by a thunderous chant. All heads bowed; every tongue singing:
Glory be to the Father. and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
In bewilderment Josh crept - not under a fallen roof - but under an open dome. An endless array of stars. Lowering his eyes, he found a man standing with open arms.
“My son. I’ve prayed for your journey.”
Through tears Josh stuttered, “Dad?”
“Josh, the Lord drew us here to be in worship. To pray continually for his creation. He has called you and your friend here to join us. He sustains us. We’re truly free. No one leaves.”
