Crypto Valley VC has selected Ivorypay, an African crypto payment startup, to participate in its 5th global blockchain startup accelerator program. Ivorypay aims to facilitate blockchain-based online and offline payments in Africa and remove barriers to intra-country and cross-border payments for African businesses. It is one of only three African projects selected for the current round.
Victory Farms, a Kenyan aquaculture startup, has raised $35 million in a Series B round led by Creadev. The funds will be used to expand operations in Kenya and Rwanda and potentially enter new markets in Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania. Other participants in the round included Acumen Resilient Agriculture Fund, DOB Equity, Endeavor Catalyst Fund, Hesabu Capital, and several angel investors.
Lazerpay, a Nigerian web3 and crypto payment startup, is shutting down due to financial difficulties after being unable to secure funding, as stated by the founder, customers have been advised to move their funds by April 30, 2023, and the startup has offered to sell its IP to anyone interested in furthering their mission of driving financial inclusion and interoperability in Africa.
Nigerian fintech startup GoFree has launched a super app that integrates messaging, collaboration, and payment features to allow users to manage their personal and professional lives on one platform, targeting B2Cs, Gen-Z, Millennial users, SMEs, and startups.
The World Bank has approved $390 million in funding for the first phase of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project, aimed at reducing the digital divide in Kenya. The project will increase broadband access, provide digital public services, and improve digital skills among people and businesses. It will use a Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) in two stages, with the first stage lasting from 2023 to 2028 and the second from 2026 to 2030. The project aims to increase last-mile connectivity in Kenya's rural and underserved areas and make Kenya a regional ICT hub.
