The more one examines 2.0 Fascism and its ties to Christian Nationalism, one has to begrudgingly appreciate the genius of the relationship. For the adherents it constitutes a perpetual motion machine of Fascist ideology, that is truly synergistic. It constantly spews dogma onto the base of sucker minions that gives substance from political and religious leaders that stems from “high priest” Billionaires, grifting televangelists and other acolytes of Fascist belief.
What does the claim that America is a Christian Nation actually mean?
The fact that Christianity is the predominant religion in the United States is a given for most Americans. Less known is that the percentage of Americans who identify with the Faith has dropped from from 85% in 1990 to 65% in 2020. A report I saw today today states that the “nones” (those professing a non religious affiliation) are now 29%!).
By exploiting this “fact” of a statistical majority of Christians, the assumption is that all Christians subscribe to (or will soon enough) believe in the the same set of values and beliefs. So, the slogan America is a Christian Nation, seems both innocuous and reasonable, even if the true dogma that it obscures is an anathema to Democracy.
Part of the brilliance of this strategy was a carefully constructed long game Fifth Column strategy with roots in the worker unrest and strikes of the Great Depression.
Today the most open display of that strategy is the National Prayer Breakfast. An event that positions the CNs with most of our key National Leaders in Congress, the Executive and the Courts.
White Christian Nationalism has “more to do with ideology than religion.” as Katherine Stewart, a well regarded expert on this matter, described to NPR.
At this juncture it is easy to go into what could three or four more posts on the back story, the key players then and now, as well as the largely Calvinistic and Right Wing Evangelical beliefs that constitute what is known as Dominionists, Reconstructionists, The Organic Constitution, and “End Times” eschatology. Of course there is the Pro-Life-Anti Abortion, White Supremacy, justification for slavery and anti-LGBTQ. And this is the short list of the agenda.
My research shows a consistent confluence between support of Fascist Republican ideologies and Christian Nationalist ideology. More often than not there is little deviation in the ideology
This synergistic pairing provides a virtually impenetrable fortress of an alternate world, that can only be fully realized through taking the reigns of power on this nation and to have all live in accordance with the dogma of Christian Nationalism.
When can not be overstated is the power believers derive from unified religious and political belief in support of one another in driving for a “restoration” of a mythic past that never was.
This ideological structure is not the sole domain of hicks and rubes. It is clear that there is an elite cadre of wealthy Fascists, including such notables as DeVoss, Pence, and Lindell who give vast sums to non-profits 501c’s that are completely opaque to inquiries on who donates to them and how they subvert their charters by law to engage in activity, which is by law, is to be non political. The heir to the Pepsi Fortune pumped over $500,000 into Christian Nationalist fronts like “Faith Wins” (to finance far right pastors into support of Trump in 2020) is extensive.** Katherine Stewart.
Whether Fascist Billionaires actually believe and subscribe to Christian Nationalism is almost inconsequential given the vast sums they provide to this ideology.
