You may be getting a notification about this Substack because you have signed up for a previous newsletter version from either my bakery (Vintage Baking Company) or from my website (Pastrycheflisa.com).
Many of you may be questioning what the heck Substack is, and why the heck am I choosing to use it when there are so many other platforms that I can use. Choosing to move out of a traditional email newsletter format is something I have been considering for a while. While I do love sending out regular emails to my bakery customers and seeing their replies, I can no longer do that when using the mailing list via the bakery’s software system Square. When folks reply to those emails it houses them in a weird customer notification area that is clumsy and hard to find. Many times I end up reading your comments and messages weeks later. Of course lumped into this section of Square is a place where customers can comment or ask questions regarding orders. It was getting messy, and I began to stress about it. I hate missing messages about customer orders because it looks like I don’t care or that I am incredibly disorganized. While I am fairly disorganized most of the time, I DO care about customer orders and being able to help folks. So I turned the whole feature off. It wasn’t worth losing sleep over.
My plan for this space is to give everyone a glimpse of bakery ownership, professional baking, and also to share recipes. I am working on a very special project and I’m seeking feedback and help from other bakers in order to help with this project. I am also excited to share just what is going on in bakery life (and by extension, my life) as well.
My goal is to be able to write a newsletter every other week. It may be more frequent some times as life events occur. I’d love to send one out every week but sometimes other stuff gets in the way so I’d rather under promise and over deliver. I am planning to be more active and interactive in the community space. The community space will be for subscribers and will include recipes. I have over 20 years of recipes that I have been collecting and tweaking, and it’s time to share them with you.
