Jeff’s Cubicle
We’re happy to report a new addition to the team, Jeff (the Managing Associate). Jeff is, as you probably guessed, the Managing Associate at his “ultra-high-end” law firm in Mississippi. While most of Jeff’s personal and professional life is shrouded in mystery, I did verify that Jeff could potentially manage between 1-3 people that may or may not be associate attorneys.
From his cubicle at work (he assured me he doesn’t leave), Jeff will be providing guidance and answers to your management questions.
First up is this: “Jeff, my associate advised that they are stuck at a music festival and can’t input the rest of their time for the month. How should I handle this situation?”
Jeff: I just tackled this issue, but it was because of the bane of my existence, Burning Man. In short, handle the issue with a bit of understanding. Maybe that associate hates their job? Maybe that associate wants to lose their bonus? Maybe that associate wants to get fired? Understand where they are coming from.
From there, it’s really just about good messaging. Here is an example of what I’m talking about.
While I didn’t receive a response from my associate — or any form of communication whatsoever after that text message — I assume they are diligently working to get their time in.
Glad I can be helpful here.
