1st month of discovery
A month ago I left my CTO job at a software startup and decided to become a solo maker. It turned out to be quite packed 4 weeks!
April was fun.
So much happened last month that each item could be its own post. And some will one day. Recap:
I built, launched and already pivoted one product, ✨spell.so
I convinced over 300 people to become Spell users
I went from ~150 to ~700 Twitter followers which for someone in nature not very active on social is a really big deal
I created a few popular Reddit posts, all low key related and promoting my product
I received some recognition on Twitter with the CEO of Supabase quoting & retweeting (thanks! ❤️)
I made $0 in revenue, but also discovered that due to a technical glitch I failed to capture 6 sales
I went through 4 different checkout providers (Memberstack, Stripe, Paddle, Lemonsqueezy)
I shipped an open-source side-project to Spell called Spellbook (did not receive much interest probably because of next to zero promo done so far)
I had a ton of fun being on the forefront of generative AI and every day learning about another mind-blowing technology
Looking forward
It was a tough 4 weeks! Getting a solo startup off the ground is not easy, but seeing the results start to trickle in is super rewarding.
Spell is gaining some traction so I’m going to double down on it. I will stay focused on generative AI for now. This tech has so much potential and for a short while is still a green pasture!
This newsletter will hopefully happen once a month. I plan to share here what I’ve been working on and what I’ve learned in the process. See you next month!
