Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be … relatively minor.
This past fall I fell back an hour, my husband and I devoured the bird. Partook in some Black Friday shopping – the specials were absurd. Purchased a few gifts and that wasn’t all: the following Saturday I went downtown to shop small. With a finger on my mouse and Google as my guide, I surfed the ‘net on Cyber Monday to see what deals I could find.
Got my balls out of the closet and placed them on the tree, with tinsel and garland decorating the tall greenery. Presents all wrapped as pretty as can be – ‘til one was carried off by my AussieDoodle, Daisy. “Oh, no you don’t, Daisy bring that back here!” Heeding my warning, she put it down on the floor. That package was to be a gift for our neighbors next door.
Christmas was okay, not too exciting. Having those days off was very inviting. Time with friends and family brought welcome good cheer. I look forward to this weekend to celebrate the coming new year!
I’ll make a few resolutions (though it seems like a chore), with intentions to do better in 2024.
Losing weight is the resolution at the top of my list (it seems to be number one every year) ‘cause Little Debbie and her cakes seem to place pounds on my rear. A diet consisting of what I really should eat has never been part of my plan. I would rather have my cake and eat it too – who cares where the calories land?
Exercising more fills spot number two; it’s always part of my daily plan. Whatever the weather, I laced up my shoes and either walked or ran. Mile by mile, distance doesn’t matter. It helps to relieve my stress (and keep me from getting fatter).
Organization is resolution number three; I file receipts monthly if I am able. The past twelve months have been so busy, papers now take up most of the dining room table. That might be a plus in my resolution to lose weight, because there is no longer room for even a dinner plate.
Another resolution (this would be number four): it would be really nice to sit down and read more. However, when I get comfortable in my favorite chair, I think of all the things I should be doing instead of sitting there. Then my mind starts to race, about a 5 or 10K, and I put my book down until yet another day.
Saving money and spending less should be resolution number five; however, I am not sure with that decision I really would survive. A confessed shopaholic, each week I must see what I can purchase that I really don’t need.
I have resolutions and I know what to do. As the new year unfolds, let’s see how many come true. Live life to the fullest and strive to the core, I’ve got a good outlook on 2024!

What a sneaky way to spring a poem on we poor, unsuspecting readers. Happy new Year to you!
