Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be ... relatively minor.
Love is in the air! Believe it or not, even the birds, bees, and fleas are getting in on the action. They are all out there, falling in love, while we are just sitting here. So why not join them? Let us take a cue from the sports world and Just Do It.
This Valentine’s Day, the humans and animals of Winterset will be exchanging sweets, flowers, and gifts to show affection.
Birds can become quite enthusiastic when it comes to the game of love. Their constant quest for the ideal earthy gift propels them to the ground. They fly through different neighborhoods, hoping to worm their way into their winged partner’s heart. Since birds of a feather flock together, this simple display of affection could lead to building a cozy nest.
Bees are a flutter of enthusiasm and tenderness. Their point of passion is not presented with chocolate or gifts. They eat the flowers they would otherwise give their mate. This longing for blossoms, however, presents a sweet alternative for their spouse. Who wouldn’t want to butter their biscuit with honey from their “honey” during this special time?
Fleas, however, are a hop, skip, and jump away from attachment. Despite what the cat says, they love dogs, too ... and exhibit the same loving feeling. One flea in the market searching for a card with a fond sentiment leads to other beasties filling the aisle. And then their friends show up. Soon it is just one big circus of love.
Interestingly enough, while we celebrate this holiday of adoration, even humans exhibit some wild traits. Local love birds derive great pleasure from holding hands without going out on a limb. And honey, although sweet, doesn’t have to come with a sting.
However, if you lie down with your dogs today, you could wake up with fleas tomorrow.
