Eric Dolphy and Me
So, in chatting with my sensei George Marshall, I’ve decided to work on small compositions (some might say might call them “miniatures”, I would say that is far “too twee for me”) for various string duos. Why string duos? Well 2 is less than 4 and that sure works for me right now. So I’m working on an arrangement of John Coltrane’s “Naima,” the melody of which has been knocking around my grey matter since I was what… 14?
The thing is in researching this experiment I found a great version of this tune by “I am not worthy” Eric Dolphy. The intro basically says, “Damn… what’s the point.”
And speaking of twee… version one sound like a soundtrack for a cornflake commercial… OK maybe a European one, but a breakfast commercial, nonetheless. Nope, not going to post it.
