St. Swithin’s Day if thou dost rain, for forty days it will remain,
St. Swithin’s Day if thou be fair, for forty days will rain na mair.
My postie colleagues will curse me for bringing the rain! Many of them have accused me of performing rain dances in the past, in the hope of manifesting the perfect dreich day to break the heat of a toasty Scottish summer.
Today, I pinned my magical rain badge to my postie shirt; the prospect of forty days and nights of sun and bright blue skies was too much to bear!
Are you a forty days rain or forty days fair kind of person?
🌦️Happy Birthday to my lovely cousin Loraine, who shares this special day with the esteemed 9th century Bishop of Winchester! 😉
N.B. I’m not advocating for forty days and nights of continuous rain (which would be perilous to the land), just a wee shower a day would suffice!
I read a bit more about this. Apparently, it has to rain on Saint Swithun's Bridge? That river Itchen is notorious for flooding so it must get a lot of rain further upstream regardless! 🙂

I like varied weather and not too much of one thing.
Me too but I bend a little more in favour of the grey and damp! 😂 x
