It has one of the most recognizable opening riffs in rock, partially due to the heavy rotation it had at MTV’s launch. The move to whispering, “It’s just a fantasy” really works to switch up the dynamics of the song, and the blistering guitar does as well. It still sounds as fresh to me now as it did when I first heard it in 1982.
(I haven’t found a good alternative to Spotify and I found out that YouTube pays even less, so it’s back to posting Spotify links. Read this article to find out about the problems with Spotify and act accordingly.)
I had never seen this video. Yes, it’s early Canadian video production, but at least it’s trying to do something interesting. I love the animal print body suit! As one commenter on YouTube put it:
A man in a tight leopard jumpsuit, wearing cowboy boots, sporting a mullet, and carrying a guitar that shoots lasers. Folks, it doesn't get much more 80's than this.
Aldo Nova was an artist who wanted to stay true to his musical vision and got screwed by the business in the process. He moved on to writing and producing, working with Celine Dion, Clay Aiken and Bon Jovi. But then, he started touring and dude is still rocking out. This live clip is from last year. The sound mix isn’t great from this angle, the vocal is way too low, but you can get an idea.
Have a great Friday and enjoy your song of the day!
Now I remember why I intentionally forgot the eighties. Blech!
OMG that jumpsuit is epic.
