VIRGINIA DEMOCRAT WHO POSTED MARITAL SEX ONLINE SHOULD STEP ASIDE
The Virginia state legislature is up for grabs this year, and Susan Gibson is an albatross around Democrats' necks and for the Republicans, the gift that keeps on giving.
Susan Gibson Democratic candidate for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. (Photo from her campaign site.) She recently posted images of herself and her husband having sex, and asking for performance advice. For Virginia Republicans, she is a dream come true. For Democrats, she’s a nightmare who could costs us the legislature.
Personally, I don't care if this candidate and her husband exhibited their sexual practices online, and asked for some helpful tips on improving performance. It's definitely not anything I'd suggest anyone do, but it's a free country, it's not a crime, and I'm pro-choice on almost everything. I’m interested in a candidate’s political views and proposals, and their competency.
Okay, that puts me in a distinct minority among voters. For a substantial portion of any electorate, posting marital relations for the world to see would mean that candidate will never get their vote. Candidate Susan Gibson will not be running amidst an electorate where most voters see it my way. I fear most will be appalled.
Sometimes a candidate has to put the interests of others above themselves. This is difficult among politicians, perhaps the most ego-driven of callings.
When an errant candidate cannot realize this, it's up to the political party to tell them "game over."
Here, Ms. Gibson should not receive party support, and should be told in no uncertain terms to withdraw in time to run a credible campaign for a better candidate. People should stop sending her money!
Virginia is a "swing" state currently governed by a popular Republican and whose legislature is virtually an even split. The GOP won the governorship and virtually tied the state legislature largely by appealing to moderate suburban people, especially women, and focused on values in education and other "lighter" ways of waging a cultural war. Democrats didn’t know how to respond, and apparently they still don’t if they are backing Ms Gibson. Republicans are making an all-out effort to capture control of both houses, so they can further restrict abortion and voting rights, hound LBGTQ+ people, and force the Christian religion down every Virginian's throat.
A person does not have to be a religious fanatic or an uptight prude to think there’s something not right about a would-be state legislator putting their sex lives up for the world to see. Don’t you think Ms. Gibson owed it to the Democratic party and her backers to inform them that this was coming down the pike? Was she so naive she thought it would never see the light of day?
What else has she not revealed that might hurt the Democrats this year ? Being secretive about such politically devastating dynamite is not a good advertisement for a seat in a legislature!
I know she didn't intend this, but Susan Gibson is the gift that keeps on giving to Virginia Republicans.
The loss of even one seat in either house of the Virginia legislature jeopardizes a woman's right to choose, a Black Virginian's right to vote, an LBGTQ+ Virginian's right to equal protection of the law, and promotes further crumbling of the wall separating church and state.
I assume Ms. Gibson is a loyal Democrat who does not want to see Virginia turn solid Red. She should step aside to make this less likely.
Help to make Virginia more Blue by winning both houses of the state legislature.
That means Susan Gibson has to step aside now.

When the article states tips they are not talking about advice. They are talking about money. They would perform requested sexual acts for money! Moreover they have 2 young children. Weren’t they concerned that as a public candidate this would eventually come to light and their children would be affected by it? Not in any way a candidate for any office.
