Dear Reader,
The Storyletter recently held a speculative short story writing contest from July-September of this year. We had some amazing entries and it was a really close competition.
The theme this year was “Seasonal Retreat”. Submissions were judged separately by 3 volunteers utilizing a grading rubric. An overall score for each story was then input into a spreadsheet by me to rank them appropriately. The top 3 scores at the end of the contest were considered the winners.
I’ll be contacting all of the participants via email in order to award the winners their cash prizes and provide any necessary feedback to those that submitted.
Winner - $100 Cash Prize
“The Fuller” by J.M. Elliott
Runner Up - $50
“Abaddon’s Portrait of a Lonesome Shore” by James Castor
Runner Up - $50
“Summer in Antarctica” by Brylle Joseph Gaviola
Honorable Mention - 1 Year Paid Membership
“The Summer Light” by M. S. Arthadian
Congratulations!
I want to thank all of the participants for submitting their stories, and the judges for taking the time to read and score. Please congratulate the winners in the comments below! I do hope to publish these stories on The Storyletter in the near future. Also, check out our judges pages: Arjun Agarwal, Daniel W. Davison, and Galia Ignatius (no Substack).
We will be hosting a flash fiction and poetry contest in a few months, so keep an eye out for the announcement post. Of course, the next S6 Contest won’t be until Summer ‘23, but I’ll share exact dates via the monthly newsletters.
Yay, congratulations to all of the winners and I so look forward to reading them all. With the hurricane here in Florida, I’ve been a little preoccupied but ready to settle down and get back to reading again. Good job everyone! 🏆
Awesome!! So cool to run contests on SS versus the legacy mags!!
