I wanna talk about "building bridges”.
Specifically, why I think this is a fallacy that prevents people from actually connecting.
“What?!” You say…
“Bridges are essential to connect separated bodies of land…over water, congested thoroughfares, train tracks…c’mon! Of COURSE we need bridges!!!”
Yeah, I hear you.
Except I think where there is a bridge, there is automatically 2 separated things requiring connection. By believing there needs to be a bridge between one group and another, the starting point is from disconnect.
“But…”, I hear you saying, “But ‘disconnect’ is real! They just don’t get it. So we have to find a way to ‘connect’, right?”
Maybe. Umm…no.
What if like the song from the Sound of Music we “start at the very beginning”…?
