“The Sound of Letting Go”
written by: Heather Holland
Have you ever noticed the sound a leaf makes
When it lets go of a tree?
It doesn't drift to earth on carefree wings,
Or land so silently.
It cackles and crackles
As it comes crashing down,
Bouncing loudly from branch to rooftop,
Then resting on the ground.
So it was, this morning
As I stood among the trees,
The sound of letting go
Rang out hauntingly.
And with a chill upon my bones,
Beneath my sweatered skin,
I heard that same cacophony
Echo from within.
