I love new beginnings, and I love sharing intentions. With 2024 just getting started, this seems like a good time to throw some intentions out into the universe. There’s plenty of research (none of which I will cite here) that says when people share their goals with others, they’re more likely to achieve them. I have personally found that letting others know what I’m trying to do has helped me stay accountable.
So, in the spirit of all that, here are the top three things I’m working on this year.
Getting my memoir traditionally published. I wrapped up a massive edit on December 31, and after I rest the book and my brain, I’ll be going back in. The plan is to have the manuscript Capital D Done by March 31.
Increasing my fitness through competition. Last year, I completed my first triathlon and my first half-marathon. This year, I’m signing up to do the same tri again and a different half. Last year, the goal was to finish. This year, the goal is to beat last year’s times. For the triathlon, that’s under 2:11:04. For the half, it’s under 4:34:32.5. (Yes, I know those times are not impressive, and I don’t actually care.)
Building this Substack. This is a vehicle for me to share what I’m working on and interested in. More on this in a minute.
These are just three of many goals I’ve laid out that align with my five focus areas for this year: Career, Finance, Health, Minimalism, and Enjoyment. Most of them aren’t all that interesting or big. They’re small habit changes, adjustments, and tweaks to things I already do. I may write about them. I may not. We’ll see.
I have a long list of topics I will write about here, including essays, glimpses of the memoir, some old blog posts, my own reactions and learnings from the writing I’m doing, and more. If you’re interested in what I’ve got to say, I’d love it if you’d subscribe here. I put a button below to make it easy for you.
Right now, subscribing is free. At some point, I’ll open up paid subscriptions and offer content just for that audience. That’s the cool thing about Substack that sets it off from a blog—it’s a tool to help me start earning a living off my writing. I realize this just became a commercial for my Substack, but hey, I already warned you I have big goals.
That’s all I’ve got to say at the moment. Look for a new post every Tuesday. I’m excited to grow an audience here, and I’m grateful to you for reading. I’ll drop one more subscription button below, mostly because I love how easy it is to drop them anywhere I want.
