The War Within: Identity, Need and Preference

War is in the news. The Syrian, Yemeni, Ukrainian, Sudanese, Israeli, and Palestinian people are feeling the cruelties of men who show no shame in using horrific violence to achieve their objectives. It might seem odd to start a Sex Guides piece with war, but I was reading about the horror unfolding around the world wondering why the people responsible feel no shame or embarrassment at the suffering they’re inflicting.
Watching movies as a child, I never flinched at an on-screen death, but show two people having sex and I’d shrink into a metaphorical cave and turn every fibre of my being to avoiding eye contact with my family. Sharing experiences or talking about sex can be so horribly awkward. The men behind the violence we’re seeing on a daily basis will proudly talk about their reasons for inflicting such harm, but if you asked them about their sex lives, they’d probably lie and boast or shrink with embarrassment and make a joke.
