I can’t believe that I have been working for over 16 years ( where did the time go ? ). I have built a career that I am proud of and would like to see myself develop further. During some stages of the journey giving up seemed a bit easier than pushing ahead, I am glad I kept the faith.
What got me through the journey?
Below are the X ways that have assisted me in my journey.
1. Keep the faith. Many times, in my journey I have faced adversity just like most people, sometimes because of my own doings and others just because we are ALIVE. I have understood that I need to focus on what I can control and less on what I cannot. At times the lines are a bit blurred, but you must keep the faith. When it looks like the situation is not improving, make sure that your faith gets you through this period.
2. Perseverance & Consistency, the road to our goal is most times not linear and when this happens the natural feeling is to get disheartened. We also tend to internalize what is happening to feel like victims. In these situations, we need to persevere and be consistent. If we have committed to sending a weekly report, then it must be done. Over time these two factors add up and compound.
3. Growth mindset: learn, unlearn & relearn, the world is changing at a rapid pace. When I started work, MS Windows XP was the ultimate product, and many years later Windows 11 appears to have claimed that spot with a bucket lot of enhancements. Our ability to learn, unlearn and relearn will differentiate us from the standard answer “We have always done it this way”. You must believe that you can grow and adapt to the environment that you are operating from.
4. Clear goals & objectives. Having clear goals and objectives keeps us on the correct road. The path to get there may not be straightforward, but it is being able to take lessons and redirect, if necessary, on how to get there. This process is iterative and happens ongoing as you map a route to where you want to go.
