Jack Hirschman was a poet and translator—a dear family friend. I first met Jack as a child in Los Angeles, but eventually, he moved to San Francisco, very close to the social world of that city, which includes the ultimate Beat Culture bookstore, City Lights. Jack was a social activist as well as a visual artist. Probably one of the most brilliant individuals I have ever met. And he may be the only Communist I have ever been in the presence of. A remarkable visionary poet, one of the significant figures in 20th-century literary arts. -Tosh Berman. Videotaped in 1987.

Thanks for this interview Tosh. I believe I saw it on another occasion but I like Jack Hirschman’s poetry and his personality too.
From looking at videos of animals it is not from just other humans but from the trees and the animals as well that we are given Eden’s grace if not God’s to correct our mistakes and forgive our transgressions-- so add that to the conversation of meaning and social worth ; add not our ideas but our instincts to love and care for .
