(Happy) Easter update
This post is firstly driven by the fact that I want to let you all have my warmest wishes of Happy Easter!
With reference to the VI·VIII·X project I have nearly completed the ‘How to run a KUP game’ series (in the next weeks, I should post the last 2 articles). I haven’t written a lot in this period as I am fully involved into the activities for the publication of the first edition of the VI·VIII·X RPG.
So, hereby a flash update on the upcoming releases! Beforehand, a side note on the KUP acronym: in a conversation with a friend about the fact that this acronym should actually be KPU and not as I defined it (I have written a post in the past about this detail), I came to a nice solution which preserves both the underlying meaning and the acronym: Keep Uneducated Paradigm.
Ok, back to the VI·VIII·X game releases: the core rules have been submitted to the press… I am waiting for the proof of print and if everything is working, I will publish the first edition finally!
The book has been deeply revised in the layout (the changes in the contents are those reported with the playtest and presented in the errata of the playtest rules): the pages have nearly halved! From more than 220 pages of the playtest edition, the new book has 125 pages and it has a new paragraph about magic items! The appendices have been reviewed as well, the main change is a new appedix with all the SS words grouped by circle/path for an easy access to any SS word reported in the rules.
Along with the core rules, I decided to publish a ‘variant cover’ edition: for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of RPGs, the golden anniversary, I have prepared a dedicated (golden) limited cover!
Once the first 50 printed copies will be sold, this book will be withdrawn and won’t be available any more. Contents are the same of the ‘standard edition’ of the core rules, the cover is the only difference!
Let me add a comment on this topic: I find rather embarrassing the lack of initiatives of the publisher of the very first RPG… that it is a unique event and a proposal of nothing or near to that for the golden anniversary is really weird. I find that a tribute for the 50th anniversary of the birth of RPGs is due… and this is the way I can contribute!
Both printed versions will be sold as stand alone books or in bundle with the digital version of the game. Compared to the playtest edition, the pdf won’t be anymore as a PWYW option: I set a price of 1 euro with a purpose. If someone wants the core rules free of charge, he then needs to look them up here: I will publish an online version of the core rules on this Substack so that anyone can access with an internet connection while the pdf will be (correctly) priced.
Along with the core rules, the quickstart is nearly done. I am waiting for the proofread feedback and I am ready to send the files to the printer. This will be the book that is going to be released at the same time of the core rules. As I have already disclosed in a past post, there will be an Italian version of the players’ handouts along with the English version.
I really hope that April will be the month where you will see these book! More will follow, so stay tuned!
