Finally we had a decent thunderstorm here in Carlsbad, New Mexico late yesterday afternoon and evening. It didn’t produce very much rain (I measured .24” at our home) but it did produce some pretty cool lightning. Blowing dust was occuring as it began to sprinkle creating mud drops.
Outflow from dying thunderstorms nearby gusted up to 54 mph at the Carlsbad Airport. This kicked up lots of blowing dust which reduced the visibility down to 11/2 to 1 mile.
This was a much welcomed change considering how brutally hot our summer has been so far. I’ve recorded fifty days with high temperatures of 100º or higher on my Davis Vantage Pro2 Wireless Personal Weather Station (PWS). Five of those days have reached 110º and two 111º. Normally we would only see on average about twenty six days during the summer (meteorological summer June - August) with highs of 100º or above.
Roswell some eighty five miles to our north has officially reached 112º twice. El Paso, Texas set a new all-time August record high temperature Sunday with a high of 112º. This is impressive since climate records began in El Paso in 1887.
My video was shot from inside of my truck with my Gopro HERO11 Black dash mounted camera. I wanted to shoot my video from my tripod outside of my truck but the wind and blowing dust were a bit much.
