So, I'm on Substack now?
If you think you're in the wrong place, I mean, me too? But I guess we're doing this.
Let’s get down to business.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not charging for this substack. If you’re here already, it means you’re on my email subscription list. And if you’d like off that list, just unsubscribe. It won’t hurt my feelings. I’m a big proponent of creating the online space that’s right for you, and if receiving emails from me (about monthly) is not right for you, then go make the space that is!! I say this with all the love. Really.
I know a LOT of writers (probably most) charge cold hard Venmo for their substack emails. I won’t be doing that. I fully support those who do, but I don’t pay for any substack subscriptions right now, so I won’t be charging for mine.
Functionally, this will just be like any other free email newsletter type publication you receive from any other person. And again, if you don’t want it, see above.
So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about my “newsletter.” A while back, with all the Life happening, I lost the motivation to send it out. And I did some soul searching and realized that because I didn’t have to bandwidth to send it out in the same format every time. But at the same time, I had things to say. Things I wanted to share that didn’t feel right on Instagram. And then I realized that my perfectionism was creeping in and keeping me from doing anything at all. I’m hoping that by setting myself free from a format that I thought I had to use (ugh, right?!) that I can breathe some new life into this communication and we can all be happier. Also maybe I’m putting too much weight into what Substack can do lolol.
But already I’m loving this more.
If you follow along on IG, then you know we moved, our oldest started middle school (WHAT THE ACTUAL WHAT) and life has generally been pretty busy these past few months. I had my last WWL work-related Thing this past weekend and SPOILER ALERT I had a product launch almost ready to go this past week. But you know what? I just wasn’t ready. And I didn’t want to rush to be ready. So I’m giving myself permission to push it off until the new year so that I can spend time holiday-ing with my family. I still have a couple of areas of house to decorate and I just want and need some margin right now. So I’m giving myself that permission. I hope you give yourself that permission if you need it too.
So instead of Hustle, my next couple of weeks will look like this:
Reading
Crocheting
House decorating
Staying on top of laundry/dishes (maybe…)
Hot Chocolate-ing
Christmas movie-ing
Catching up on my book bullet journal and setting up my 2024 book bullet journal
This is honestly my favorite time of year and especially while my kids are young, I don’t want to miss the slowness.
Out of respect for the stream of consciousness I have going here, how about some more random things I’ve been thinking about lately.
I saw a video the other day asking people to recommend a piece of classical music to prove classical music is awesome. Here’s me flying my nerd flag. My recommendation would be Dvorak’s 9th symphony. You’ll recognize part of it probably but the 4th movement is my favorite.
I really went all in on Halloween costumes this year for the kids. Last year I took it easy, but this year I was able to wrap my head around doing the whole thing so here’s what we came up with:
Captain Rex (someone from Star Wars)
Frank (the combine from Cars)
My goodness, these were so fun!!
I want to journal more along-side my planning and I’m looking forward to doing it for real in my 2024 planner, but I’m sorta practicing now through the remainder of the year. More thoughts on this coming later as I have them ha.
Save My Life Sandwich: I learned that I have not done a good job at mid-day body nourishment a.k.a. lunch. I race through so I can get to my desk and get work done and I end up munching on a bag of pretzels or something and I’m always hangry by mid-afternoon. Enter the Save My Life Sandwich. It came about by recommendation of The Caterpillar Project (go follow her for real) and I changed it up to use what I had so here goes:
sourdough bread
sweet mustard (I got mine from Aldi)
thinly sliced apple
sharp cheddar cheese slices
shredded chicken
Put all this stuff on a sandwich and grill it up so the bread is toasty and the cheese is melty. It will give you the strength to get through the rest of the day. Promise.
Okay, we’re going to call it here for today. I’ll see you soon to talk about more stuff and share more about the new stuff that’s coming to my shop. Meanwhile, make the sandwich and let me know what you think.
Love you byeeeee
