You know how impossible it is for a Toyota Camry to fly because its design by its creator was not meant to fly but to at most run on the road. It brings to mind the thought of man being created by God. What was the intention? The design? The implications? And the expectations?
Now, man, who was created in the image of God, is typically a being of creativity. However, the reference point for his creativity is God. He was not fashioned to be outside of God. Any invention or imagination of man that has paint of the flesh and corruption on it cannot best serve the purposes of the Father. In order for man to be in the originality of God's essence, which is void of death and corruption, he must be fully dependent on God.
It is this dependence of man, which is a function of his intimacy with God, that makes the purity of God's abilities express themselves through him.
This dependency is not one born out of weakness but out of the recognition that God, as the source of all wisdom and understanding, holds the key to unlocking our full potential
This dependency is not one born out of weakness but out of the recognition that God, as the source of all wisdom and understanding, holds the key to unlocking our full potential. Through intimacy with God, our expressions become a reflection of God's originality and beauty. We become channels through which the spirit of the creator finds expression to abolish the effect of the fall on creation and manifest the glory of God.
"Be still, and know that I am God."
Psalm 46:10
This verse emphasizes the importance of quieting our own ambitions and desires and seeking God's guidance in all our endeavors. It's a little wonder why Proverbs says in chapter 3:5–6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
When we seek His will and surrender to His plans, He uses our lives to bring glory to His name and impact others in profound ways.
• We have human tendency to rely on ourselves
As humans, we have a natural inclination to rely on ourselves. We often believe that we have the knowledge and ability to navigate life's challenges on our own. This mindset of independence can lead to a sense of self-sufficiency, where we try to control every aspect of our lives. However, this self-reliance can be limiting and ultimately lead to frustration and disappointment.
• Surrendering Control to God.
To truly experience the abundant life that God offers us, we must unlearn this sense of independence and instead place our confidence in Him. As believers, we are called to surrender control and trust in God's guidance. He knows what is best for us, even when we may not understand His plans.
• Seeking God's Wisdom
When we unlearn independence and embrace dependency on God, we open ourselves up to receiving His wisdom. God's wisdom is far greater than our own, and through seeking His guidance, we will navigate life's challenges with a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
• Finding Strength in God
If we must unlearn independence, we must acknowledge that we are weak on our own but find strength in God. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we are reminded of God's promise.
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
When we humble ourselves before Him and rely on His strength, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way.
• The Blessing of God's Provision
When we let go of our independence and trust in God's provision, we will experience His faithfulness in remarkable ways. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." When we prioritize God and His will above all else, He will pour out His blessings upon us.
• Cultivating a Spirit of Dependency
Unlearning independence is a journey that requires daily surrender to God. It doesn’t happen just once, but every single time you realize you are going off track or every single morning; relying on Him in all aspects of our lives. We are called to cultivate a spirit of dependency on God, seeking His guidance, finding strength in Him, and trusting in His provision. As we do so, we are drawn into depths of intimacy with Him and walk in the fullness of His abundant life.
One of the things I've realized that makes it uneasy for men on their journey to unlearn Independence is impatience, or rather, men’s inability to wait.
Many a time, we are not ready to wait upon God to receive instructions before making life decisions. We imagine God to be way too slow, or it's killjoy and bites our flesh so much. However, if we are ever going to see God’s perfect manifestation in our lives, we must be intentional about putting absolute trust and confidence in God, and depending on him, we must be ready to move only at his marching orders.
God cannot come late!
God knows what's best for you; therefore, you must be submissive to him without planning to take an alternative. He should be the only option you've got! The outcomes of going through this discipline of waiting on God are so beautiful. It gives you what no man can give you.
The Father is always available; however, He draws near to those who draw near to him.
Sometimes, the reason we don't even seem to hear God is because we’ve not taken His role as our Creator in a life-and-death manner.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
-Isaiah 45:9
Unlike clay, God sees the heart; he knows there could still be many options and no immense value of the word. It shows us that we do not hold his will strongly in our hearts. And because He has sworn to never strive with man, He allows us to go our own way because there are idols in your heart. Not because he couldn’t stop us, but because it's an established system of consequences.
If we learn to wait and keep our gaze on him, making a firm resolve never to move till he moves and never to act till you've heard him speak, we'll see unending miracles in our everyday experiences. Miracles are not just about great money or requests in our possession. It could also be about little things, such as leaning in.
God doesn't want to be among the many options we have. He wants to take charge of your life. He wants to show you great and mighty things that you do not know. Not because He is authoritative and aristocratic but simply because He is the creator, our creator, and no one knows our lives better than the one who created them.
