209. Maria Haggo: Intuition, belonging, neuroscience as a way of meeting people where they are and curiosity
Maria Haggo (LinkedIn) founder of Transform8, TEDx speaker and fellow curious came to the podcast. We had a conversation about different aspects of neuroscience and how getting savvy about it allows us to work and live better. This is a hands on conversation about relationships, emotions, triggers, ingroups and outgroups, who's fault it is, the utility of curiosity, what you can do when you fundamentally disagree and much more. This was a really useful conversation to me, simple not easy yet with lots of nuance. Enjoy! Host: Amit Paul

"The ego as the thing we’re trying to protect at all costs. The value of me."
Maria Haggo 🧠🤍🌱founder of Transform8 came on the World of Wisdom 🎙️ Podcast EP209 and dropped that beautiful definition of the ego. We also spoke of neuroscience, transformation and relationships in work specifically and life in general.
Here are a couple of my favourite takeaways from a very rich conversation:
🚧 The distance to our emotions to be able to observe/be aware of them is not disconnection or distance from the emotion, rather it is a posture where we don't have to get attached to it. It is a place where we can observe the emotion and get curious about it.
🤼 Relationships as the story of our lives. The relationships we are in are what our life becomes. We are very little apart from our relationships. At work, at home or as our families. Attend to them with care.
🔫 Humans as trigger machines. A trigger is not however what is happening it is actually"how I am reacting to what I perceive is happening". Therefore getting curious about your triggers allows you to learn something about yourself.
And then there was the ego thing that I lead with. Which is one of the most compassionate explanations of ego I'v heard recently. Seems particularly important in these times where every 4th person I talk to seems to aspire to 'ego death'...
