This Happened When the Algorithm On a Popular Blogging Platform Played Matchmaker
Finding a needle in a haystack (part 1)
They say 1 in 4 couples meet online these days making it the most popular method for couples to meet.
It is no surprise therefore that a new study shows that algorithms now play the primary role in matchmaking as opposed to the more traditional ways of meeting a romantic partner, say, for example, through mutual friends and family.
I recall reading a remark by a young person who hilariously captured the essence of modern dating in a nutshell: “Nobody hunts in the wild anymore, Mom.”
Latest findings indicate one in ten adults in the US alone have utilized a dating site or app to connect with potential matches.
For a person who grew up on a staple of classic romance novels particularly those penned by authors such as Jane Austen, I couldn’t help but wonder, with a touch of melancholy, whether the days of adventurous pursuit are a thing of the past.
Until something completely unexpected happened — which apparently seems to be the norm in my love life (pun completely intended).
However, it came with a twist, albeit a sweet one.
This time around, the algorithm on a popular blogging platform not only assumed the role of a matchmaker but also set in motion a sequence of events that led two individuals (who share a common love for writing), situated in different corners of the globe, to discover each other amidst countless other potential outcomes — perhaps even millions of them.
Talk about finding a needle in a haystack-type situation.
And yes, I am happy to say, thanks to Uncle Algo who unwittingly played matchmaker, I currently have someone in my life who means the world to me.
I am a blogger who writes relationship-based content ranging from personal anecdotes to more intimate subjects. He is a person whose days are governed by pragmatism — professional tasks, meetings, and business decisions synonymous with his day job while the night unveils the poetic hues of his heart.
In my experience, it is one thing to be ‘merely’ romanced and a completely different thing to be romanced by a person who is committed to seeing things through regardless of the challenges.
In other words, he is a lover and a doer. A man of action, not just pretty words. To me, that distinction is truly significant.
What drew me to him?
I’d like to say it is the intensity of passion reflected in his words but that would be just one aspect of my attraction. I can’t deny that I’ve encountered advances from other male writers, ranging from downright aggressive approaches to more passive ones and one truly creepy one — this one writer threatened to throttle me if I didn’t reciprocate.
In our case, my poet was willing to patiently until I was ready for the next step. By giving me the space and time to arrive at my decision without any pressure whatsoever, he not only demonstrated respect for my desires but also conveyed the message that he considered me valuable enough to wait for.
What does the future hold?
I honestly don’t know. But if there is one thing I am sure of, it is that the patient anticipation has fostered a deeper connection, culminating in a sense of comfort derived from a securely forged bond.
For a person like me who is still healing from the aftermath of a previous long-term relationship, it means everything.
Good luck dear Yana! May Cupid fulfill your desires. ❤️
I don't do much dating, but, if I did, I'd prioritize the opinions of actual people over machines.
