🟨 Surreal: How to get Fake Celebrity Endorsement?
Can you guess Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's favourite cereal...
Hey there!
Every other Wednesday, I share a Marketing Campaign example to help you get fresh and actionable ideas to sell more and grow your business.
Surreal is a cereal brand that is high in protein, low in carbs, free of sugar and gluten. It also provides a healthier alternative to other breakfast cereals.
Surreal created a ‘fake celebrities’ campaign, since they could not afford A-list celebrities. They found random people who shared the same name with these famous people.
The people featured in the Surreal OOH campaign are not the “Serena Williams”, “Michael Jordan” or “Dwayne Johnson” known around the world. They are regular folks who were paid to try out the cereal and give a nice review.
ICYMI: What Will You Design Today?
The asterisks on the billboards show that "Michael Jordan" is a guy from St. Albans who really enjoys the cereal, and "Dwayne Johnson" is a bus driver from London whose favourite cereal is Surreal.
The campaign created a lot of buzz on social media which led to skyrocketing sales and increased brand awareness for the product. Many people applauded the brand’s innovative approach to standing out in a saturated market.
🍉 Action Points
Tell stories - People connect with stories. Surreal turned regular folks into stars and let their love for the cereal shine. What stories can your brand tell? Think personal, relatable, and authentic.
Celebrity endorsement with a twist - Surreal used a creative approach by featuring individuals with the same names as A-list celebrities to create a buzz without the cost of actual celebrity endorsements.
Transparency builds trust - Those asterisks on the billboard added a dash of transparency. By openly sharing that these were regular people, Surreal built trust. In your marketing materials, consider ways to be transparent about your product or service, fostering authenticity and credibility.
P.S. Please share this marketing campaign idea with a friend who would like it.
