All of this is even stupider than it seems at first, but it’s also just the world we have. They are not constitutional republics and federal parliamentary governments. It is like bright green crayon violently scribbled over all of your favourite legal fineries, none of which matter anymore, if indeed they ever did.

To my eye the Trumpian insurrection represents the coming-together of a coalition within America the polity, to protest at this ordering of power, moral status, and political priority and to recapture the control-room of the imperium from the aspirationally universal GAE managerial swarm. And in turn this dynamic sheds light on the apparent paradox of European elites that are (in the GAE sense) entirely America-brained and yet also, in another, reflexively anti-American.
